Amazon Package Scam: Is It a Scam?
Amazon delivery scams are among the most common phishing attacks, with millions of fake texts and emails sent daily. Scammers exploit Amazon's ubiquity to trick victims into revealing account credentials or payment information.
How This Scam Works
The scam typically works as follows:
1. **You receive a message** claiming to be from Amazon about a delivery issue, suspicious order, or account problem.
2. **The message creates urgency** by claiming your package couldn't be delivered, your account will be suspended, or there's an unauthorized purchase.
3. **You're directed to a fake website** that looks exactly like Amazon's login page.
4. **You enter your credentials** which are captured by the scammers.
5. **Your account is compromised** - they may make purchases, steal saved payment methods, or sell your credentials.
Red Flags to Watch For
- Unexpected contact - Amazon primarily communicates through your account messages
- Suspicious URLs - Not amazon.com (watch for amazon-delivery.com, amaz0n.com, etc.)
- Requests for payment info - Amazon won't ask you to re-enter payment details via text
- Grammar and spelling errors
- Generic greetings - "Dear Customer" instead of your name
- Threatening language - "Your account will be suspended immediately"
- Requests to call a phone number in the message
