In June 2024, Life360 confirmed that its subsidiary Tile, maker of Bluetooth tracking devices, suffered a data breach. A hacker gained access to an internal customer support platform using stolen admin credentials and extracted customer data.

What Happened

A hacker obtained credentials belonging to a former Tile employee, likely through a previous credential theft. Using these credentials, the attacker accessed multiple Tile internal tools including a customer support platform. The hacker was able to query customer data by phone number, email address, or device ID. The attacker also accessed an internal tool that processes law enforcement data requests for location data. Life360 stated that the stolen data did not include Tile tracker location data, and the hacker attempted to extort Life360 for payment.
